Thank you for visiting my website.
I hope you found Deorbit entertaining, exciting, fun,
and educational. That's why I wrote it.
Some people said I should write the "about the
author section" in third person, such as "Mr.
Mavis grew up in…" Well, after five years
of writing this book, mostly in a truck stop, I'm going
to have the final say, on the final page. I'm going
to write in first person, to you.

I'm the son of a West Point graduate, and
retired US Air Force Officer who served in the Vietnam War.
I am very proud of my Dad and Mom, who raised our military-brat
family in difficult circumstances as Air Force assignments
moved us around the world. I was not born with an owner's
manual, but I feel my parents did a great job putting me together.
I grew up in Baghdad, Tehran, Turkey, and moved to the USA
in 1969. That year, I started second grade, and for the first
time saw a football, was able to drink water from a tap, and
saw astronauts on the moon via TV.
Mom and Dad retired from the Air Force and moved to Georgia,
where I eventually earned a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology
from Southern Tech in Marietta, and a MBA from Mercer University,
Atlanta.
My career has been in long-distance fiber-optic telecommunications,
which moved me to Oklahoma, where I ran unsuccessfully for
public office. Instead of complaining about issues, I tried
to do something about them. The rhyme "Mavis will save
us" came about as a campaign slogan.
The biggest regrets in my life are the risks I didn't take.
Take your most terrifying risks; they are thrilling, and don't
hurt as bad as you think.
I love to adventure travel. I guess I got the travel bug from
growing up. In addition to Europe, I've spent six months driving
around the USA, and a year backpacking Asia. Made it to Mt.
Everest Base camp.
I'm an amateur volunteer storm chaser for the National Weather
Service in Tulsa. I'm a lousy chef; I make dinner by reservation.
